Mechanical Spider

This aluminium spider was a small project I made to experiment and learn about the different metal fabrication processes. The main body of the spider was originally a cylinder block of aluminium, I then carved the shape of the body on the lathe. This was a tricky process that took many steps in order to make the body smooth and rounded. The head of the spider also threads onto the body as a unique feature. The legs are made up of aluminium rods that I sanded down to points and fit through 4 holes across the body. These are then reinforced with threaded holes on the stomach of the spider that lock the legs in place with set screws. I then bent the legs into a preferred style that gives the spider elegance as well as a mechanical scary look.
